Volunteer Spotlight: Giving Back with Joy

At the heart of Mary Martha Thrift Shop is a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers. We often say that our volunteers are our greatest treasure, and it’s true—without their tireless efforts, our shop simply could not exist. From sorting donations to assisting customers, our volunteers bring warmth, joy, and a spirit of service to everything they do.

    The Lifeblood of Our Shop

Operating a donation-led thrift shop requires an immense amount of behind-the-scenes work. Every item that comes through our doors must be inspected, sorted, priced, and displayed. Our volunteers handle this monumental task with grace and efficiency. They are the friendly faces that greet you when you walk in, the helpful hands that assist you in finding the perfect item, and the dedicated workers who ensure that our store remains organized and welcoming.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Some are retirees looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community, while others are students fulfilling service hours. Many are members of the seven local churches that support our shop. Regardless of their background, they all share a common commitment to our mission: serving the underserved in St. Charles County and the surrounding areas.

    Honoring Our Treasured Crew

We pause to honor and remember the treasured members of our crew who have passed on. Their dedication and spirit remain part of our journey always. We remember Mary Caldwell, Janet Rodakowski, Tom Love, Jeanette Koenig, Judy Ertl, Phil Aalbers, Sharon McNeill, and Sue Hendricks. Their legacy of service continues to inspire us every day.

    A Community of Care

Volunteering at Mary Martha Thrift Shop is about more than just completing tasks; it’s about building a community. Our volunteers form deep friendships and support one another through life’s ups and downs. The shop is filled with laughter, shared stories, and a genuine sense of camaraderie.

Led by our President, Mary Crook, our volunteer team is a shining example of what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause. We recently enjoyed a wonderful presentation by Lana Kruse about "First Steps Back Home," highlighting just one of the many organizations our shop supports. It was a powerful reminder of the impact our volunteers are making.

    Join Our Team

We are always looking for new volunteers to join our crew. Whether you have a few hours a month or a few days a week to spare, there is a place for you at Mary Martha Thrift Shop. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and make a tangible difference in your community.

If you are interested in joining our team, please stop by the shop during our regular hours or give us a call. We would love to welcome you to the Mary Martha family!
