Sleep in Heavenly Peace: Beds for Children Without One

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a national nonprofit with a simple, powerful mission: no kid sleeps on the floor in our town. The Wentzville chapter serves all of St. Charles County, Missouri, building and delivering beds — at no cost — to children who are sleeping on floors, couches, air mattresses, or sharing beds with parents or siblings. Mary Martha Thrift Shop is proud to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace, with our charitable awards helping provide beds for children who do not have one.
A Bed Is a Basic Need
Across the United States, hundreds of thousands of children do not have a bed of their own. Sleep in Heavenly Peace believes that a bed is a basic need for proper physical, emotional, and mental development. A good night's sleep affects a child's health, school performance, behavior, and sense of security. Without a bed, a child's whole world is more difficult.
The Wentzville chapter of SHP builds beds through volunteer-powered build days, then delivers them directly to children's homes, complete with mattresses, sheets, pillows, and blankets. Each delivery is a moment of joy — a child receiving their very own place to sleep for the first time.
Why Mary Martha Supports Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Our mission to serve the underserved includes the most fundamental needs, and few needs are more fundamental than a safe place to sleep. Sleep in Heavenly Peace's volunteer-driven, community-powered model aligns beautifully with Mary Martha's own donation-led, volunteer-powered approach. By supporting the Wentzville chapter, we help ensure that children across St. Charles County can rest, grow, and thrive.
In 2025, our charitable awards reached $217,632 across more than 30 local organizations. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a vital part of that giving, helping put beds under children across our community.
